How to keep on top of your stress levels during a divorce

When you get married, you can’t imagine that divorce could be something that happens to you. Unfortunately, if it does, it can be a stressful process. However, there are simple ways that you can keep on top of that stress.

Rest

It’s important that you get enough rest when it comes to managing stress. No sleep will only make those stress levels soar and can lead to other negative effects like anxiety and exhaustion. Try and fit in at least six or seven hours a night – eight if you’re lucky! If you are finding it difficult to sleep, there are a number of things you can do, including our next point…

Exercise

Keeping yourself fit by doing regular exercise is not only a great way to combat stress, but also a great way to get you sleeping sound every night. Exercise makes you feel fantastic – it makes the body release endorphins which have a stress-relieving quality, and not to mention the fact that it will make you feel healthier than ever.

A new hobby

Don’t let the divorce proceedings take over your life and your mind. Take up a new hobby to keep you preoccupied and reduce your stress levels. You could do anything – from learning a new language to learning a new instrument, or getting involved with a local sports team to tick exercise off your stress-busting list too!

Keeping in touch

Make a point to keep in touch with friends and family on a regular basis. Divorce can often make you feel quite isolated so organise frequent meet ups and schedule phone calls or Skype sessions with people to make sure that you maintain that all-important social side to your life, and create a strong support system if you are ever in need.
