5 ways to avoid car accidents

We deal with a number of road traffic claims at Attwood and many of these incidents could have easily been avoided if guilty parties had simply taken more care on the road. Safe driving is the key to avoiding incidents and we’ve suggested a few methods to help you stay accident-free in this latest blog. Buckle up and read on!

  • Slow down: Excess speed is one of the biggest contributors to accidents, driving too fast and losing control of the car is a recipe for disaster. Keep to the recommended speed limit, ease your foot off the accelerator and slow down if you want to stay safe.
  • Watch out for warnings: Pay special attention to any road side warnings you encounter on your travels. If you see ‘men at work’ signs or ‘accident ahead’ warnings on the motorway ease back a little and be prepared to stop at short notice.
  • Stay focused on the road: Learn to ‘read the road’ ahead instead of living in a bubble. Keep focused as you approach side roads, school zones, constantly check your mirrors and look for dangers further down the road that could cause an incident.
  • Avoid distractions: Don’t answer your mobile whilst driving, even if you have it on hands-free. It’s a massive distraction, so are kids arguing in the car, music blaring loudly and other daily distractions that take your focus away from the road.
  • Keep your car maintained: Have regular servicing, ensure your brakes, steering and tyres are in condition and make sure your vehicle is safe to use on the road.
  • Stay alert: Never drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or due to a lack of sleep. Your reaction times are diminished and you’ll be a danger on the road.

Wherever you travel in your car please stay safe from all the team at Attwood.
